ABSTRACT

[Abstract] Objective: To study the efficacy of quetiapine fumarate and magnesium valproate sustained release tablets combined with lithium carbonate in the treatment of bipolar disorder manic attacks.
Methods: According to the principle of "double blind randomized grouping", 100 patients with bipolar disorder manic attacks received in our hospital were divided into the control group and the observation group, 50 patients/group, the former group was treated with magnesium valproate sustained release tablets combined with lithium carbonate, and the latter group was treated with quetiapine fumarate tablets combined with lithium carbonate. BRMS scores, PANSS scores, cognitive function, clinical outcomes, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.
Results: After treatment, BRMS and PANSS scores of patients with bipolar disorder manic-episode in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). After treatment, hvlt-r and CPT scores were higher than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the total clinical efficiency and adverse reactions (P>0.05).
Conclusion  : Quetiapine fumarate combined with lithium carbonate and magnesium valproate sustained-release tablets combined with lithium carbonate are effective and safe in the treatment of bipolar disorder manic attacks, but quetiapine fumarate combined with lithium carbonate is superior in improving the cognitive function and clinical symptoms of patients.
